2. Keep Your Number

Keep your number. It’s easy to move your current mobile number to Lebara Mobile from any of Australia's mobile networks including: Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Three and Virgin Mobile.

You can transfer your current mobile number to Lebara Mobile only when you first activate your SIM.

 

You must be the account holder to transfer your current number. You will also need the following information:

 

  1. Your current mobile number
  2. Your date of birth
  3. Your existing Mobile Service Provider 

If you are on contract with another provider, you will also need to supply the Account number

When activating online visit www.lebara-mobile.com.au/activate and tick the "I would like to activate with an existing number from another currently active service" box.

If you are calling us to activate your SIM let us know and we’ll arrange this for you.

What is phone unlocking?

At Lebara Mobile we understand that a lot of our customers are thinking about unlocking their phones. Here is some key information to help you find out more about unlocking your phone:  

Unlocking your phone allows you to use alternative network providers. This is particularly useful to avoid roaming charges whilst traveling abroad.

Lebara Mobile does NOT lock our Prepaid SIMs to our network.


How can I tell if my phone is unlocked?

You can see if your phone is unlocked by inserting a SIM card different to your current network provider into your phone. If your phone is locked you may receive an error message, such as:

  • SIM Card Not Accepted
  • Enter Restriction Code
  • Enter Special Code
  • Enter Subsidy Code
  • Enter Subsidy Password
  • Contact Service Provider
  • Invalid SIM
  • Incorrect SIM
  • SP Locked

If you receive an error message your phone is most likely locked. To find out how to unlock your phone, contact your current network service provider or the place where you purchased your mobile phone. Please note, your current service provider or place where you purchased your phone may charge you a fee to unlock your phone.


What are the advantages of unlocking my phone?

There are many advantages to using an unlocked phone. If you have already purchased a phone that is locked to a different network, you can unlock it and use it with your own SIM card and service.

If you have a GSM phone you can use it with a SIM card from any other GSM network in the world. 

You can also save on the cost of buying a new phone. Instead of purchasing a new phone when you switch networks, you can keep your old phone (as long as both networks use GSM technology).

You no longer need to pay roaming charges when you go abroad. With an unlocked phone you can purchase a domestic prepaid SIM card at your destination and receive the same low call rates as locals.


Is phone unlocking allowed?

We must advise you that the phone may locked by protected software. Always check with your current network provider to ensure that by unlocking your phone, you are not in breach of any contract or obligations and that the unlocking method you are choosing is legal. Lebara is in no way responsible for any claims by third parties or damages related to the (attempted) removal or manipulation of the SIM lock.


How can I unlock my phone?

To find out how to unlock your phone, contact your network service provider or the place where you purchased your mobile phone.


How will my phone change after it’s been unlocked?

When you insert a different SIM card into your phone, instead of getting an error message, your newly unlocked phone will accept the SIM card.

You may find that some network- specific functionality, such as pre-selected web browsers or settings may change as these are linked to the network SIM, not the phone.


Are there some models of phone that can’t be unlocked?

Some phones are more difficult to unlock than others.

You will need to check with your current network provider or place where you purchased your mobile phone for more advice about unlocking your particular phone model. They will be able to advise you whether

  1. your phone can be unlocked
  2. how much it would cost, and
  3. what after sales support is available

Will unlocking my phone damage it?

 Unlocking your phone should not damage it – your current network service provider or local mobile phone shop should be able to provide you with additional information.
